Week Two...Playing Connect Two
One FULL week down |
Learning, teaching, pondering, sleeping, eating. A list of gerunds to describe my life here at the MTC. Quite the change from life before haha
One thing that has remained the same is that Im still running. Ten laps around our indoor track = one mile. So you guys already know I'm THAT girl running a million laps. The sisters in my district are nice enough to run a mile with me but then after that I'm on my own. Nothing like running in green and windy Nu'uanu but in high school I've learned how to visualize while running pretty well (thanks Granny lol) so laps on laps isn't too bad.
If you dont know already, I love to eat! THANK YOU ABBY AND AUNTY ANELA FOR THE COOKIES :) |
As missionaries we dont play "Connect Four" we play "Connect Two". To teach effectively you need to connect. Connect with God, connect with your companion, and more importantly connect with your investigator as they connect with God. Wait...did I mention connect? Hahah. Anyways, with everyone you meet you can make a connection and develop a relationship!
One of our TRC investigators (not a really investigator, just someone pretending to be one so that we can practice), Sam, was born in Samoa but grew up in New Zealand. So before we met him, Sister Lowe told me that she was nervous that he was going to be some big Poly guy. I immediately stopped in the middle of the walkway, looked at her and was like "hey dont worry I'm Hawaiian we got this". Even though I'm small, you all know that I'm a huge Hawaiian in my heart; he Hawaii au mau a mau ;) SO we went to meet Sam and turns out that he has lived in Hawaii AND in St. George! See look at that connections everywhere! He's good fun and I talk to him about laulau and poke and surfing :')
We went to do some laundry this morning. A pretty normal and easy task right? Well we put it in the washing machines and then came back about 40 minutes later and turned out i put both my loads of whites and colors in two DRYERS instead of two washing machines. Yep big face palm again. Guess I dont exactly know how to read...good thing I'm English speaking lol...I dried, then washed, then dried my clothes again. Sorry mom promise nothing shrunk (that i know of).
Then when I had to go grab my laundry out of the machine, turns out I forgot my laundry bag in my room and I was too lazy to walk back and I had no jacket so sweet Sister Lowe sacrificed her jacket to carry all my laundry in. She's the kindest I tell you.
Spiritual Thought:
On Tuesday we had a devotional and Elder Benjamin De Hoyos came to speak to us. I sung (at least attempted) to sing in the choir and the song we sung is "More Holliness Give Me". Here are a few of my favorite lines:
"More purity give me, More strength to oercome...
More fit for the kingdom, More used would I be
More blessed and holy, More, Savior, Like Thee."
As we begin to rely on the Savior more and come closer to him we WILL not only be blessed but we WILL become more like him. I am so grateful that through our Savior we can and will be strengthened. It is a promise that holds true in my life and one that holds true in each of your lives. I promise that as you develop a personal relationship with YOUR Savior you will feel joy, peace, and direction in your life.
Also Elder De Hoyos told us that God uses the unlikely to accomplish the impossible. For example, God used Joseph Smith, a 14 year old farm boy, to restore the fullness of the gospel upon the Earth. This gives me hope in my life as I am out here. I am the unlikely. I am but an island girl headed to the big city to preach His gospel. But I have faith in my Savior and I know he will lead me to people who are preppared to hear his message.
K. That's it for this week. Thanks for all the love and support! If anyone wants to send me stuff this would be your week cuz I head out on Feb 19 to NYC!!! EIGHT DAY COUNTDOWN LITERALLY SO STOKED!
