Miss(ter) Independent
If you know me...you know I love museums. First of probably many art museums on pdays! |
Aloha family a me friends,
Not too sure if I've already written about choice in one of my emails. But in the spirit of Independence Day last week, I thought I'd touch on one of God's greatest gifts He has given us: agency or the ability to choose. What a sweet gift.
We live in a country where we have freedom and can choose. We live under a God who allows us to have freedom and can choose. A win win situation all around. Our district leader asked us the other day how we have been finding so much success in just these two weeks and I believe we both credit it to the choices we make. On the 4th of July Sister Dunne and I CHOSE to be spirited and dressed up for the holiday (we also CHOSE to have some fun and one of our daily goals was to get ice cream from Mister Softees, the ice cream truck). We CHOOSE each day to be happy. We CHOOSE to be disciple of Christ because we want to not because we have to.
Goal accomplished. Mister Softees found. (also this is the most festive I have EVER dressed up on 4th of July...enjoy) |
Action shot of me eating. What is that red stuff you may ask? My face says it all. |
We, and I mean all of us, "are free to choose liberty and eternal life, through the great Mediator of all men" (2 Nephi 2:27). It's simple. We all want to be happy in this life. It's as simple as that. I have faith in Christ because I want to be happy and have joy. But yes there is opposition. Circumstances in life may hinder our ability to be happy but they will never take away that ability or option to have joy. The adversary often portrays the key to happiness in materialistic items or fame or glory but I would that we take heed from King Benjamin in Mosiah 2:41:
"And moreover, I would desire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state of those that keep the commandments of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, both temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to the end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of never-ending happiness. O remember, remember that these things are true; for the Lord God hath spoken it."
It. Is. So. Simple.

We all may have regrets in life but I know that choosing Christ is something we will never regret. Choose to follow His commandments, especially when it gets hard and you may be standing alone. Choose, simply, to be happy.
All day everyday, every month |
Randoms:
1) Sister Dunne played the piano at a party for the Spanish ward. Last minute I was asked to conduct the music. I don't know Spanish hymns. Let alone can I roll my"r's".Smile and wave. Smile and wave.
2) Met a woman named Jesus. She came out of a sketchy stairwell in a project building. Quite the experience I tell you.
3) Teaching a woman from Ukraine. She came to church. Turns out she is neighbors with these super solid members in our ward. #friends
4) According to the date on my ministering certificate, I go home in a year....weird.
5) On our hunt for ice cream we found a new person to teach, got a TON of numbers, and ran into several of the people we teach. #prayerfulgoals #godsplan
6) A member from Kenya said I'm her niece because I am from Obama's home. Lol.
7) Fourth of July was nuts at night, lots of fireworks (almost like home on New Years Eve lol). Sister Dunne almost got hit by fireworks that some holligans were playing with. Good thing I stopped her before it was too late. Companions what would you do without them?
8) Some movie was being across the street from our apartment one night. Free entertainment!
Me ke aloha,
Sister Ellis
