Big Chief, Small Bean

Two thumbs up for the city I love
Aloha family a me friends,

Do you ever just wonder...
Why is the Book of Mormon blue and gold? Why do LDS Church buildings look so modern and not like old Catholic buildings? Why is everyone in NYC so cool and hip?
...or maybe that was just me this week. Who knows hahaha

Anyways. Our Father, "the chief of the universe", is the ultimate person to speak to and answers these questions ("Pure Love: The True Sign of Every True Disciple of Jesus Christ", Elder Massimo De Feo). In perspective, the Earth is so small and human beans are even tinier. We are practically ants lol. Though so small, He knows us and He loves us perfectly . He places people in our lives to remind us that He is there.

Downtown in the concrete jungle
God is a funny guy especially when I found out that I actually met my Zone Leader my freshman year at BYU. Or that Sister Dunne and I had to pass off one of our super solid people we teach to these Elders in Brooklyn and I realize that I went to a summer camp (EFY) with one of the Elders. Or that one of the interns in our YSA Ward was in the same ward as my cousin's husband (Mark) at BYU. Or that another girl in our ward actually lived and served with my cousin, Kai, in San Jose on their missions. Or that I go to a dinner with the LDS interns in Manhattan and meet a girl who went to SOAR (a BYU summer camp) the same year I did and had my cousin, Kai, as a counselor. Makes the world and us little beans not seem so small anymore am I right?

Here's a few more divine coincidences that are too good to not write about:
-Got on a bus. Elders were on it so the next stop we got off (to ohey mission rules) and got onto another bus. At the last stop the bus driver was like "hey can I have a Book of Mormon". We gave it to him. He texted us saying how it strengthened his testimony of prayer and fasting and wants to meet with missionaries. Way cool.
- On a subway cart. Looked pretty dead so I told Sister Dunne let's move. We get onto another cart and we find this lady who used to have missionaries over all the time when she was a kid. And was SO open to having missionaries come over again.
- Missed a bus (not surprisingly) so we got onto a subway. We meet a girl from the Dominican Republic (fyi the DR is like filled with Mormons) and just took her nursing test, was super down, and told us how much she really needed to get closer to God. Soh kewl.

So either my cousin, Kai, and her husband, Mark, know a lot of people or Heavenly Father works in mysterious ways by divine design...most likely both ;)

In Romans 8:28 we read...
"And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose."

Everything works out. Especially for those who love God. God's hand is always in our lives whether we know it or not (whether we like it or not). The smallest question that He can solve in our lives, means the world (and more) to the big chief above. Be still...and know that He is there.

Randoms:
1) Walking down the lovely streets of Harlem. Across the way I hear some one say "Sister Ellis! What's up?!". Turns out to be this hood looking great grandfather I talked to like three weeks ago. Made. My. Day.

2) Sat down at a subway and started talking to this guy next to him. Read a scripture. It got really loud with the trains and I started shouting. I asked him what he thought and he was like "You tell me!". I looked at him and was like "Friend. You even listening to what I said?!". Later on I told him I'm not perfect teacher but I'm trying and that I'm only 19. He looked at me and was like "Yo Sister Ellis I don't want to hear none of these excuses. You is the teacher. You aren't trying yous doing it". Needless to say I enjoyed this contact so much hahahahaha good fun good fun.

3) A member took us to a seafood place. I just ate the entire grilled and glazed shrimp (tail and all). I thought it was normal until my companion and the member started telling me that I'm going to get sick. I'm fine. Lol am I Hawaiian grown or am I too Chinese and don't want to waste anything or am I just Sister Ellis? Most likely the last.

4) Went to the top of a senior couples apartment where you can see like most of NYC. It was one of those first time sights that are embedded into your memory. I was stoked. I reached into my bag to grab my handy dandy camera. It was dead. #classic #sadsadday

5) Met another senior couple that actually was at the Hokulea Homecoming a year ago. That was actually way cool and warmed my puuwai :')

6) A guy came up to Sister Dunne on the street and was like "I have been ordained to marry Sister Dunne". It was so funny and also creepy hahaha

Me ke aloha,
Sister Ellis
