Bermuda Shorts
Sis. Darrell and I |
Good day family and friends!
Shoutout to my mother for my subject line. I couldn't say it better than her so I shall quote the email I received earlier today:
"Nearly six months has flown by. Time in Bermuda appears to have been shorter than that. It’s time like this when you realize your mortal time is a mere blip in the Lord’s time.
It seems like you’ve had many “short stories” serving in Bermuda to contribute to your missionary novel of experiences. And your time is getting shorter as a missionary. "

'Tis true. Time has been short and really does fly by when youre having fun and loving the people and work. In my six months herr I can say that I have grown in all aspects of my life (very much including the physical aspect as these Bermudians love to eat food, love to give food, and love to celebrate with food haha). I feel my growth can be summed up in one of my favorite bible stories
Mark 6:41-42
41 And when he had taken the five loaves and the two fishes, he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and brake the loaves, and gave them to his disciples to set before them; and the two fishes divided he among them all.
42 And they did all eat, and were filled.
The disciples didn't have enough to feed the thousands. But that didnt stop them from giving what they had. They gave what little but what all they had to Christ. Christ decided not to look around but to look up to heaven. When we give what we have to the Lord and look up instead of looking at the judgement of those around us, THEN will the miracle be performed. Then will the Atonement of Christ enable and enoble our lives and ourselves.
The moment I became vulnerable to myself, to the people I serve, and to the Lord it was then that miracles were made and joy was found.
Because God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, I know that this pattern of thinking is not only for this area but for my next area.

Leaving tomorrow is another bittersweet experience. I love this island, this country, this people. I love the love I have felt for them. I love the "friends" we see every week. I love the faith and humility of the members. And these will truely be "Bermuda short stories" that will be written in time and memory.
BUT. As President Teuscher told us this past weekend when he visited Bermuda: "We often look at what we leave behind rather than what we will gain in the future".
Tomorrow, I will fly back to New York and will be serving in New Rochelle (yes the 1% took over and I will be going to a North area) as a Sister Training Leader who trains the Sister Training Leaders...have I ever been a Sister Training Leader? Nope. Have I ever trained someone? Nope....haha. But I do know that the Lord will magnify my efforts and His grace will fill in the difference as I look up towards heaven and believe, love and do.

Randoms:
1) Pres and Sister Teuscher and their daughter Grace came for a couple days and lucky for them the sun came out to play since theyve been here! We met in a fancy conference room in the Hamilton Princess with them for a couple hours and then had interviews outside on this dock with a lot of fancy boats and yachts. Fun stuff.
2) Had a branch activity. Prep for Good Friday. Made some Bermuda kites (which I am sad I wont be here to see the sky filled with kites). Had a fishcake competition. Ate some hot cross buns. Bermuda good friday traditions.
3) The Bermuda branch has spoiled me rotten with signs, gifts, food, and a flag with lots of signatures. Oh how grateful I am for them all!
4) Speaking of changes...President Teuscher is switching up the areas on the island. Since the sisters live about 2 hours away from the church...he is going have all the missionaries focus their efforts on the east side. And now the Elders and Sisters both share the entire island as an area. Miracles are about to happen.
5) Yes. We did see turtles last week Monday. It was the greatest
6) Dont know if I'm more nervous about my new area and assignment or DRIVING. Driving....is a whole different beast.
7) I touched stinging nettle yesterday. Not a good experience just saying lol
Got some cod fish thing that reminded me of manapua. And ate them in abandoned cabanas and watched turtles swim around :) |
