Bread to Baptism

Image
Aloha family a me friends, Hawaiian and reggae music to Hawaii is rap and hip-hop music to the Bronx. Bread to me is the joy I felt  on Saturday  when our sweet Marisol stepped into the waters of baptism :') For those of you know me, bread is a big deal so you can kind of get a feel of how much this baptism meant to me lol. To see this woman from day one when Sister Combe and I delivered her Bible all the way until her baptism has just been incredible.  I can honestly say with my full heart that I am nothing...but merely an instrument in the Lord's hand. Marisol was so prepared from day one. So ready to change her life and give everything to her Savior. It was in this pivitol moment I knew it was all worth it. Everything I do and have done and sacrificed was worth it. For the "worth of souls is great in the sight of God" (D&C  18:10 ). There really is no greater joy.  Often times I worry too much. Naturally, I worry a whole ton about our investigato

Livin' the American (Girl) Dream

New Comp. New Transfer. So stoked. Aloha Family a me Friends, A email from me not on a  Wednesday ?! Dont freak out. I'm not a disobedient missionary lol. Our preparation days have now changed to Mondays! People of New York are so interesting. I love going outside and on public transportation because you never quite know what you are going to see or who you are going to run into. Lessons are all around us as we heed the promptings of the Holy Ghost.  One afternoon we helped a hispanic mother and daughter onto a train as she had many belongings and her six year old daughter was crying a lot. We sat down. Across from us was a young girl around the age of 10 or so. She stared at the crying hispanic girl for a moment. Then proceeded to unzip this bag she was carrying. In it were two beautiful American Girl dolls and the girl starts to dress one of the dolls. I sat there in awe and thought: "Was she really going to give this other girl an American doll?? They are SO

The Big "C" Word(s)

Image
Aloha Friends a me Family, Crazy roommates I tell ya The big, dreaded "C" word in Sister Ellis' vocabulary...change. I'm not a big fan of change especially right when you get comfortable with where you are. Officially out of my training and had to say adios to my trainer Sister Combe *big fat ugly teardrop*. An area in my ward has been dissolved and now Sister Felix (from Nigeria) and I are taking over the entire West side of the Bronx. Two phones, two sets of keys, two areas, two bathrooms in our apartment, two extra beds in our apartment, and two crazy 5'3 missionaries just tryin to preach bout Jesus! Double the trouble lol.  Nevertheless, change is always good when it is alligned with the will of God. Thus to overcome the stresses and mixed emotions that come with the "c" word, God has given us a greater "C" word and that is Christ.  Christ carries us, bears our burdens, and loves us perfectly.  It is through His Atonement

Ground Yo Self To Find Yo Self

Cotton candy and ice cream what more could one want?! Aloha Family a me Friends,  Despite a member in the ward telling me that out of all the Burrough's the Bronx is the "armpit", I think the Bronx is the heart of New York and it sure has my heart :) This past week we met a woman who is a holistic healer and a self proclaimed plant. She proceeded to tell us how we need to "ground" ourselves each and every day by going to a park and taking our socks and shoes off and connecting to the earth. By doing so we will become connected to our roots and are able to increase our positive energy. Some of you may be thinking she's just another crazy lady in the Bronx but hey like I've said before I believe we come in contact with different people in our lives to learn and to grow. So....currently I am "grounding" in Central Park. Two transfer together down :')  We need to take those 10-15 minutes to remain grounded spiritually. Relax,

Sewn in God's Own Time

Sister Combe, Sister Bandeaux, and I Aloha family a me friends, How is it already May already. Time seems to fly faster and faster. Time is weird; it is a man made concept yet controlled by some higher being, God. In the Lord's timing (and not man's) are we able to see miracles, receive blessings, and continue on the path towards eternal life.  Found out Sister Felix has an extra tooth growing.  - Before I checked into the MTC, my family and I visited Temple Square and spoke to a Sister from Nigeria about what to expect while I am on my mission and all her crazy experiences. Flash forward to  three months later . I'm on a bus taking Sister Felix to the dentist in the other side of the Bronx and guess what we realize...SHE'S THE SAME SISTER FROM TEMPLE SQUARE. How wacky that our path's crossed once again.  - The other week we met the cutest woman on the bus but she gave us the wrong address in a project building lol. We knocked on it and met this
