Spiritual Comas...A Choice
Isthara wanted a pineapple for her birthday. We got her one. |
It's been straight up Miracle Maddness out here all day every day like I don't even know where to start. My favorite part about serving in NYC is how many people there are. Ever bored? Hop on some public transportation and you'll be more than likely to hear a good story.
Yesterday on the train we met a woman who told us she was in a coma for two years. She remembers the day she woke up and the faith that her husband had knowing that she would get up again. Since then her outlook on life has changed and she has been searching for a church to join for a long time. I, however, was still in shock she was in a coma for two years...
A vast majority of us have never been in a physical coma. However we often will fall into spiritual comas. We may become desensitized to something or willinging or unwillinging begin to miss something in our lives. Maybe we brought this upon ourselves or maybe it was by some other means.
Our physical bodies keep going yet our spiritual souls lay unconcious. It is our souls that give us life and carry the light of Christ that we each have within us. It is our souls that keep us on the straight and narrow and keep us moving forward. Thus, it is imperative for us to use the greatest gift God has given us...AGENCY. We must choose to wake up out of these spiritual comas. We must choose to change our lives and to follow God's path. No matter how long or how short we have been in a spiritual coma God's arms of mercy are always extended towards each of His children. He loves you more than you can comprehend.
"Awake, my soul! No longer droop in sin. Rejoice, O my heart, and give place no more for the enemy of my soul"
Just as the woman's husband had faith she would wake up. I have faith in everyone to wake up, choose God's path, choose to do good and be happy, choose to open your ears to what He has to share with you. No words I say or words from prophets and apostles will ever make a difference until YOU choose.
I love you all so much. Stay safe, stay smart, and stay spiritually in tune.

Randoms:
1) Spent my P-Day celebrating Sister Combe's 20th Birthday coming up. We went to a new Asian buffet place for a couple of hours. There were these clams there. This firey woman came up to me and said "I'm not sure if you speak the same dialect as the workers but can you ask them if the clams are raw or cooked. They don't understand me ". I told her I don't speak the same language as the workers but the woman insisted. So I waved down a worker and asked the worker in perfect English "Are these clams raw or cooked?". The worker didn't understand me and the firey woman was upset I didn't speak Chinese. Where was my white-Mandarin-speaking roommate when I needed her hahaha
2) We are helping one of our investigators quit smoking. We go over or call her at night everyday. She reads the Book of Mormon and eats white chocolate when she gets the urge to smoke. She's just about smoke free. #proud
3) Two of the kids we teach started singing a song. We asked them what song it was. They said "God's Plan". We thought it was a church song. We soon found out it is actually Drake's new song lol I'm out of the loop now
4) My new roommate is a Temple Square sister from Nigeria. She's a hoot haha
5) Sat next to a woman while waiting for a train. Turns out she met missionaries two weeks ago on the train. She has been going through A LOT of health issues and family problems. She was praying to God that morning to send her a sign. We started testifying to her of God's love for her. Tears were flowing all around at the station. God's timing is SO perfect.
Me ke aloha,
Sister Ellis
