Roots Rockin Pt. 2

Happy St. Patricks Day!

Good day family and friends!

I feel like I am dying (lol). Physically? I've had a slight cold the pat couple of days but things are getting better. Emotionally? Its like a punch to the heart everyday that someone seems to remind me that my six months on the island are coming closer than I'd like. Spiritually? I'm on cloud nine and loving the work so all is well. Spirit is strong but the body is weak (for now) haha.

Roots a rockin' part two. Last week I talked about rooting yourself in love. This week: family and cultural roots. My favorite. Roots a rockin' part two.

From recent converts discovering family records to trainings on family history to reading a bible with an elderly woman and her exclaiming she has a closet full of bible with family records (such that the bible its self is getting old but the record parts are well kept). To the youth prepparing for the island's first ever trek and learning about all of the pioneer history. It just seems like over and over cultural and family roots are coming out from everywhere. And I love it! Give me a family story and I'll eat it up. More and more are doors opening up...almost miraculously. By mistake? By chance? Absolutely not. These are the last days and gathering scattered Isreal is on both sides of the veil. Not only...how great will their joy be with we find their names, but how much greater will our joy be when we find them and understand our divine identity. We receive a new sense of purpose and belonging, a belonging that is eternal...for we know families are forever :). (Fun fact that I heard while in the NYNY YSA Stake: There is a direct coorelation between young adults who know their family history and being able to get through hard times)

Nothing will stop the work from progressing!

Let's just say my cultural roots of growing up on an island and fishing aren't pulling strong as last Monday my companion caught three fish and I couldn't even catch one haha. However, yesterday at church as I was trying my best to interpret for and talk to the deaf member in our branch he told me that although he can not see them...he could feel angels all around us and especially me as I walked around. Those angels, seen and unseen, I know without a doubt are my ancestors and the promise holds true when the Lord says "my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up" (D&C 84:88).

Not only learn, but know your family history and you'll be amazed at the power you'll receive. Power to overcome fears, power to change, power to be happy.
