Wouldn't It Be Nice?
Setting up for the Relief Society Party! Look at the flowers we made |
Aloha family and friends!
As the Beach Boys song goes: "Wouldn't it be nice if we..." du du du duh. Well. It would be nice if I could remember the words but at the moment my mission brain is in place and I can't. But wouldn't it be nice if we could just ask for anything and it would happen. Like hey, I want some bananas. Then they appear. That would be the dream. What I've found more often than not is that...it works! It truly does! Haha. No I do not ask God for bananas but I do know "that whoso believeth in Christ, doubting nothing, whatsoever he shall ask the Father in the name of Christ it shall be granted him: and this promise is unto all, even unto the ends of the earth" (Mormon 9:21). Pretty cool scripture right? Probably one of my favorites right now.
Future too bright. Cant open my eyes. Hair in my face. Accurate description of my life. |
If we doubt nothing. If we fill our hearts will perfect love and belief in Christ, our Savior. Then will it be granted unto us all. As it says all over the scriptures: "ask and ye shall receive, knock and it shall be opened unto you" (no specific scripture reference cuz its everywhere). This past week, God has been so aware of us and may I just share two lil experiences with y'all.
Tender Mercy #1
Friday night it was pouring rain outside. We had picked up a lot of decorations and what not for the relief society activity. Covered it with a rain jacket we found at a vacant senior missionary house. Left it at a members house as we went tracting for a bit. I said a little prayer in my heart. It was simple. It went something like: "Heavenly Father its pouring and cold. But we are going to go forth. I know there is a family ready to hear hear the gospel. Give us the words we need to say". Then the first door we knocked on we found a cute little family who had a sign on their door that said "ohana". Kiuke.
As we were heading home it was still pouring rain, we were carrying our bags of decorations and food, and we still had a half an hour walk home. We got a few offers from people to take us home. But since they were single guys, I was like no no we are good! Then I turned around and said to Sister Howells: "If only a nice couple would just come, then I would totally say yes!". Not even five seconds later, this couple comes by and is like do you need a ride home?
Wow.
Tender Mercy #2
Saturday we had our relief society activity. Our relief society president and our senior couple missionary, Sister Moss, were running about an hour late. Sister Howells and I got to the building and we have no keys. It once again was raining. We called the Elders and they were about an hour or two away and couldn't open the church. It was 4:30. The activity was supposed to start at 5pm. Nothing was set up. As we were trying to find a way into the church building and we were like: "if only a window was open we could just climb in". Then yep. You guessed it, we look and one window was slightly cracked open. How? I have no idear. Why? Because God is aware of us. Hahaha. Crazy how things work out. We climbed through the window and were able to set everything up and we had about 25 sisters there! (which is huge seeing as we only have like 10 who come to relief society on Sunday).
Ice cream cuz I'm 20 now. haha tutu status i know i know. |
We got matching hats. Comp unity lololol |
I would say, be careful for what you ask for. But then again, if we are truly sanctified unto the Lord, our desires will be aligned with His desires for us. Our will, will be His will. And His will and way ALWAYS leads to optimal joy in this life and the life to come!
What happens when you step in wet cement. Aiyah Sister Ellis. |
Randoms:
1) Walking on the street. I see some blocks near something that looks like wet cement. I think it my head: "that looks like cement dont step in it". Then these mopeds come by honking, I get so startled that I step in the wet cement. Lol. Luckily a member lives by and I could wash it off.
2) Also MAHALO NUI LOA for the birthday wishes :) Heres how my day of turning 20 went: a drunk jamaican decided to sing to me and tell me how "my name is razor blade from jamaica mon. dont you forget mon". then a guy named Country, we met a few weeks ago, rode by on his moped and then came back to say hbd (he also has the same bday). stopped by to drop off brownies for a little girl who shares my bday and apparently at 3am that morning she woke up her mom to tell her: "mom. do you remember its sister ellis' birthday too?". then to top it all off we threw a relief society activity, had a taco bar, red velvet cupcakes, and i rode in a tiny car home sitting on my companion. what a day. haha.
3) Videocalled in a member to one of our lessons and without us even knowing apparently the member and the guy we are teaching have known each other since they were 5. The guy, Brother Kimlo, says: "I feel this tingling sensation throughout my whole body. I am so happy!". Oh how my heart was so happy in this moment.
4) Went to the hospital to visit some people. One less active elderly man kept pointing at my companion and saying "i love love love love". Another elderly woman in a room asked my companion when her wedding was. I found it quite amusing and fun to play along with these kupuna.
5) Being so far away from the rest of our mission, we often are like forgotten lol. One day President Tesucher randomly videocalled us. Apparently the APs were supposed to tell us that we had interviews but forgot to. Instead we were tracting. Then the same day Sister Tesucher called saying she needed pictures of us for a Christmas card because she took pics for everyone at Zone Conference but forgot we werent physically there. Lol.
6) Mail takes 5ever to get to or from here. Some family and friends who have sent things to my Bermuda address...I should get your letters in the next 2 weeks or so :)
7) Wanted fresh fruit. I bought an asian pear today for $5. It was worth it in my opinion.
These are called moon gates and are all over the island so I decided to stand by one to show you all. |
Me ke aloha,
Sister Ellis
